EEA geospatial data catalogue
Water Quantity, 2025
Waterbase is the generic name given to the EEA's databases on the status and quality of Europe's rivers, lakes, groundwater bodies and transitional, coastal and marine waters, on the quantity of Europe's water resources, and on the emissions to surface waters from point and diffuse sources of pollution.
The dataset contains time series of water quantity data, reported by EEA member countries and cooperating countries. The data has been compiled and processed by EEA. A list of spatial object identifiers with selected attributes, reported through WFD and WISE Spatial data reporting, is added to dataset as spatial reference. Please refer to the metadata for additional information.

The original data is available in the EIONET Central Data Repository and in the Reportnet 3.
This Waterbase contains data on freshwater resources availability, water abstraction and water use at national or regional scale.
The data was delivered between 2002 and 2025 by EEA member countries and cooperating countries, in the scope of the current WISE SoE - Water Quantity (WISE-3) reporting. No data are available for the United Kingdom after Brexit.
The national data deliveries are compiled into a European-wide Waterbase. The data is used for EEA core set indicators that assess the state, trends in water related pressures and monitor the progress of European policy objectives.
