2024 real-world CO2 emissions from cars and vans

The monitoring of the real-world emissions from cars and vans is based on Article 12 of Regulation (EU) 2019/631. It aims to ensure that the CO₂ emissions of vehicles determined during laboratory testing remain representative of real-world emissions of vehicles in circulation.

Real-world for cars and vans is public available both as raw and aggregated data in csv-format.

About this dataset

These datasets contains the real-world CO2 emissions and fuel/energy consumption data as reported by vehicle manufacturers and countries, in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2019/631 and Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/392. For transparency, it is published in full, as reported. As per regulation, the Commission shall each year publish anonymized and aggregated datasets that shall be split between passenger cars and light commercial vehicles.

Datasets contain all the reported data, including a small proportion of outlier entries. These are not corrected or removed from the raw datasets, but flagged by the column ‘Used in calculation’, taking the value of ‘0’ if not retained for the real-world gap calculation, and ‘1’ otherwise.

How anomalous records are treated

The column "Used in calculation" identifies which records are included in the calculation of the official real-world CO2 emissions gap. A value of ‘1’ indicates that the record passed the applicable quality checks and was used in that calculation; a value of ‘0’ indicates that the record was not retained, for example because of an implausible or inconsistent value.

The real-world dataset distinguishes between Raw data per reported vehicle and Aggregated data (arithmetic and weighted averages) per manufacturer, published at the Climate and energy in the EU portal. The Raw data contains all reported vehicles, as reported, and the Aggregated data contains the averages per manufacturer including only the vehicles that were retained after filtering through the outlier flag. More details can be found in the supporting documentation and the metadata file.

Using this dataset

Users conducting their own analysis using the raw datasets should refer to the "Used in calculation" column, and apply their own quality checks appropriate to their purpose of analysis. Users seeking the EEA's official real-world gap figures should refer directly to the calculation results published on the Climate and energy in the EU portal, rather than calculating averages from the raw files without reading the supporting documentation first.

Statement

The procedures for collecting and reporting the real-world data and for comparing it with the corresponding laboratory ‘WLTP data' are set out in Regulation (EU) 2021/392. The data shows the results of this monitoring exercise, based on the data reported by manufacturers in 2025 and covering vehicles first registered between 2021-2024. They show the average laboratory and real-world CO₂ emissions and fuel consumption as well as the calculated gap between those two values per manufacturer and fuel type.
