Noise exposure data reported under Environmental Noise Directive (END) 2017, version 2019, Oct. 2019
The data set includes noise exposure data reported by countries under the terms of the Environmental Noise Directive (END) by the 33 EEA member countries (EEA-33) excluding Türkiye for the third round of noise mapping in 2017. The data set includes submissions from the countries until 01/01/2019.
The data used cover noise sources specified in the END, such as major roads with more than 3 000 000 vehicle passages a year, mejor railways with more than 30 000 train passages per year and airports with more than 50 000 movements per year, as well as all roads, railways, airports and industries in urban agglomerations of more than 100 000 inhabitants.

The data used for the map was provided by Member States under the frame of the Environmental Noise Directive. The data correspond to submissions under the 2017 noise mapping obligations and comprises submissions up to 01/01/2019.
This data set contains information on the number of people exposed to 5 decibel (dB) bands for two indicators "Lden : 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, >75" and "Lnight. : 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, > 70". The database covers the noise sources specified in the END (major roads, major railways, major airports and urban agglomerations) and the corresponding number of people exposed to each of the noise sources inside urban areas and outside urban areas. Percentage of people exposed has also been calculated for comparative purposes. The reporting requirements were set to start as from 2005, and the reporting cycle specified in the END is 5 years, with the exposure data submitted in 2007, 2012 and 2017. Details per country on the data submitted are reported on https://www.eea.europa.eu/data-and-maps/data/data-on-noise-exposure-7 (END_DF4_DF8_Results_2017_190101.xls).
The geometry of the national boundaries have been extracted from the data used for the EEA template for map production available at https://www.eea.europa.eu/data-and-maps/data/eea-mapdata-and-templates-gis-5#tab-gis-data (EEA internal).
