Common Database on Designated Areas (CDDA) version 7 - vector (polygons) and tabular data for public use, Jun. 2007
This metadata refer to the European inventory of nationally designated areas holding information about protected sites and about the national legislative instruments, which directly or indirectly create protected areas. This is the version 7 for public access.

United Kingdom: Terms of use of digital boundary data. The terms of the OS Derived Data Licences must be adhered to; further the EEA to note that the GI data is provided for EEA's internal business use only (no commercial exploitation); the GI data may not be distributed beyond EEA without prior written permission from the Country Agencies responsible for that data (Natural England, Scottish Natural Heritage and Countryside Council for Wales); the OS Derived Data Licences will apply until 31 March 2008, the last date of the current agreement between the Country Agencies and Ordnance Survey, after which date the GI data must be destroyed by EEA. If further use of the GI data by EEA is required, the Country Agencies GI data may then be re-supplied to EEA (via the Country Agencies) with a new derived data licence.

The inventory began under the CORINE programme. It is now maintained for EEA by the European Topic Centre on Biological Diversity and is annually updated through Eionet. EEA provides the European inventory of nationally designated areas to theWorld Database of Protected Areas (WDPA) and to Eurostat. The nationally designated areas data can also be queried online in the European Nature Information System (EUNIS). The inventory is the national module of the Common Database on Designated Areas (CDDA) which also includes information on areas designated under European Community legislation and areas designated under international conventions. Geographical coverage GIS vector data: Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland. EEA does not have permission to distribute some or all sites reported by Austria, Estonia, Finland, Great Britain, Greece and the Netherlands. Copyright has to be mentioned for Estonia, Germany and Slovenia.

Used tools: Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel Applied procedures: MDB database was created by export from SQL Server. Text fields were cleared of trailing spaces. Whole database was compacted. XLS, DBF and CSV files was created from MDB database tables. special features: DBF file - Ntext (Memo) fields were truncated to 255 characters before export. CSV files - text qualifier is ' " ' character, field separator is ',' character, line breaks were changed to string .
