WISE statistics - pesticides (1990-2021), 2023

The WISE Statistics - pesticides tables are aggregated products used for the calculation of the annual Freshwater indicator „Pesticides in rivers, lakes and groundwater in Europe“, which is published on the EEA website.

The data tables include pesticide concentration data aggregated by monitoring site and year (annual average). They were reported annually either in disaggregated or aggregated form via WISE-SoE reporting as part of the WISE-6 data flow. Moreover, the tables include data on effect thresholds for pesticides (e.g. Environmental Quality Standards, EQS) used for the calculation of the indicator. In addition, tables are provided with the underlying spatial data and with summary statistics (mean, SD, minimum, maximum and percentiles) of the reported pesticide concentrations per water body category (i.e. surface water, groundwater).

Statement

The WISE Statistics - pesticides tables are compiled from data reported as part of the annual WISE SoE - WISE-6 data flow. The processing is revised and carried out annually. The WISE-6 data are automatically quality checked (QC) beforehand (see section "WISE-6 and QC" below). The aggregated products are then used to calculate the annual freshwater indicator "Pesticides in rivers, lakes and groundwater in Europe", which is published on the EEA website.

*WISE-6 and QC:*

WISE-6 water quality reporting was introduced in 2019 and fully replaced WISE-4 water quality reporting in 2020. WISE-6 has a similar structure to WISE-4 but also allows the reporting of concentrations in matrices such as biota and sediment, and with improved performance and better options for feedback on reported data. Pesticides – AggregatedData_Pesticides: Pesticide concentration data aggregated by monitoring site and year (annual average) reported annually either in disaggregated or aggregated form via WISE-SoE reporting as part of the WISE-6 data flow. Information per annual average data record on whether the effect threshold has been exceeded (TRUE/FALSE).

Pesticides – AncillaryData_Pesticides: Data on the effects of pesticides (e.g. environmental quality standards) used to assess whether a concentration is exceeded at a monitoring site for a particular pesticide at which effects on the aquatic environment cannot be excluded.

All files named „SpatialData…“: spatial data per country, water body and spatial unit for WISE6 data.

Pesticides – WISE6_AggregatedData_Pesticides_Statistics: Summary statistics (e.g., mean, SD, minimum, maximum and percentiles) of the reported pesticide concentrations per water body category (i.e. surface water, groundwater).
